After completing her psychiatric training at Loyola University in Chicago in 1998, Dr. Anand cared for persons with a wide spectrum of mental health issues through working in both public governmental and private sector. Through that she gained varied experience in treatment of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, neuro-developmental disorders, severe and enduring mental illnesses including Bipolar Affective Disorder, Depression, Schizophrenia and consultation liaison psychiatry.
Dr. Anand’s special areas of interest are accurate mental health diagnosis and treatment, mental health disorders in women such as perinatal depression, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and perimenopause-related depression, depression, anxiety and eating disorders in women, ADHD and co-morbities in adults and children, mental health issues in elderly, children and developmentally challenged, addiction disorders and eating disorders in different cultures and ethnicities.
Dr. Anand has extensive experience in Dual diagnosis of Developmental Disabilities and Mental Illness. In 2000 she was the medical director for department of developmental services, helping the State of California, Department of Developmental Disabilities to set up a 50 bed transitional facility to facilitate the stepping down of the abandoned, long term institutionalized, secluded, developmentally disabled with mental illness population to the transitional facility and then back into the community. She succeeded and worked in this capacity for 4 years. She then served as the Medical Director in the United States for Sacramento County and Solano County Behavioral Health. Dr. Anand was part of the executive leadership team leading and co-leading various subcommittees including mental health subcommittee, quality management, policy development subcommittee.
During the course of her career Dr. Anand has held various leadership position in USA in the public sector as well working with various state agencies including State of California Department of Developmental Services, California State Department of Mental Health and State of California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. She has over 15 years of State of California experience, was promoted to a senior psychiatrist and then Chief of Psychiatry. She had been actively providing guidance to the institutional leadership in the various departments was involved in program planning and development, providing guidelines, quality management and evaluation of various mental health programs, developing policies, procedures, protocols, providing guidelines while directing, guiding and supervising psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, nurses and other mental health staff she was responsible for.
More recently, Dr. Anand has helped the State of California, Department of Correction in activation of California Health Care Facility, Stockton, a brand new billion dollar, USA’s biggest health care facility to house the state’s sickest inmates,. She served in the leadership capacity for 3 years both as a senior and then as a Chief of Psychiatry prior to moving to UAE in 2017. In 2017 she joined Al Zahra hospital, Sharjah, a 36 year old private hospital that did not have mental health/psychiatry service to set up and activate psychiatry clinical services (both outpatient and consultation liason).

He has been a licensed practitioner of medicine in the province of Alberta since January 1993, and a specialist psychiatrist since July 1995. His main areas of interest in psychiatry include mood and anxiety disorders, specifically bipolar disorder, ADHD, and reproductive psychiatry.
In addition to being a clinician, he has been involved in clinical research for 18 years and have widely published in and peer reviewed for medical journals. He has sat on various provincial and national committees, more recently on the Canadian Anxiety Committee Guidelines. At a provincial level, he has both been a member of and chairman of the Workers’ Compensation Board Medical Panel. He has conducted several independent medical evaluations, and have provided expert evidence in my areas of specialty in court.
More recently, and based on science research, he has become interested in understanding the role of the endocannabinoid system and the role of medicinal cannabis in treating mental disorders including but not limited to the treatment of nightmares, flashbacks, sleep anxiety, pain syndromes and mood. speaker at the 1st African Women’s Health Conference in Rwanda, and presented
